[Short Film Friday] Burn (2012) Review
Jerry Pyle’s Burn is quite possibly the most intense short film I’ve ever seen. The tale of a man taking revenge on the young man that ditched his daughter is especially horrifying. It is apparent from the beginning that something is very wrong with the situation (even more wrong than just a young man being held captive), but the slow-burn style of filmmaking that Pyle uses holds off on revealing what exactly is wrong until he cannot hold off any longer. The reveal is disturbing, painful, and a little gross to watch, but it is undoubtedly effective. The camera work is beautiful, but the subject matter is grimy, which gives Burn a yin-yanged aspect to it. Burn is currently on the festival circuit, but if/when you get a chance to watch it – I highly recommend doing so.
